Can You Get Side Effects From Blood Pressure Medicines?
In this article, I'll tell you if you can and also why this can happen. I'll also describe the medically advised natural alternatives to drugs.
The answer to this question is a resounding "yes". Patients taking blood pressure drugs will often get side effects. These drugs are not like other medicine where side effects may be relatively rare. No, with b.p. drugs, side effects are unfortunately quite common. This is because they have "systemic" effects on the body.
Systemic Drugs
You see, the problem with high blood pressure is that it is a condition that has no direct cause.
For example, a person may have the condition because they get stressed. But when you are not stressed, you still have the condition. This is because stress causes long term hormonal changes. In fact, all the factors that affect high blood pressure are like this and rely on a complex chain of events to occur.
For this reason, there is no single drug that will cure you. Instead, there are a number of drugs that affect the entire body. It's a bit like firing a shotgun to try to hit a pea. Probably, you will hit it but you will also hit many other things too!
Types Of Side Effects
These common side effects are numerous and include dizziness, constipation (or diarrhea), frequent urination, increased cancer risk, irritating cough, swollen ankles, gout, increased risk of developing diabetes and more.
Your doctor will typically prescribe you a pair of drugs and then ask you to schedule a future appointment where you can discuss your side effects and make a small change to your daily medication to try and limit these.
Alternatives
Many doctors now recommend that you use natural methods at the same time as drugs, or instead of them. For example, the DASH diet is the result of an extensive study carried out by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute. There are also many other natural ways to lower your blood pressure.

Lower Blood Pressure Without Medication - Can it Get Any Easier Than This?
The American Heart Association recommends that you lower blood pressure without medication through changes in lifestyle. In fact the AHA says that drugs are useful only when adjustments to diet and exercise have failed to work.
What a no brainer idea! While nobody can say for certain what causes high blood pressure, there is plenty of evidence to see the connection between the food we eat, the exercise we don't get and the daily stress we live with. All three of these contribute over the years to harden our arteries, create plaque on the blood vessel walls, and generally set us up for stroke, heart attack, kidney failure or blindness. If those three elements caused the condition, doesn't it make sense that by reversing them we can cure it?
Blood pressure medication simply masks the body's response to high blood pressure. It blocks certain natural processes in an effort to control, not cure, the level of pressure. In the process, medication can also create some very nasty and dangerous side effects. If you are already on meds you know what these are. You also know if you don't do something to turn your condition around; you're going to be on meds the rest of your life.
Lowering pressure naturally takes some effort. It is certainly not as convenient as popping a pill or two or three each day. It requires that you change the food you eat, that you get some daily exercise and that you do a better job of managing the stress you face each day.
But it's not an impossible burden. Even small steps in these areas will have an impact on your BP and surprisingly quickly. Cutting salt is probably the easiest place to start and you can accelerate the benefit by adding a banana to your daily diet. Did you know the real problem with excessive salt is that we typically are deficient in potassium? It is this relationship between sodium and potassium that controls the fluid levels in our body and therefore the volume of blood in out vessels. Adding a potassium rich banana will give your low salt efforts a boost.
There are literally hundreds of tips like this that apply to lowering blood pressure naturally without medication. You don't have to become a health junkie to turn this condition around. Every little change you make counts. Doesn't ditching the meds and living longer sound like a better deal? Do your research and learn how you can turn your life around naturally. Your heart will thank you for it.
